  I’m into birds. The number of avian species in the Eastern U.S. is amazing. What I remember from sub-saharan Africa is that we might have had one - a buzzard.

  I put up a bluebird house and my next door neighbors, Bobbie and Kim, put up a bluebird house. The mom and dad bluebirds sniffed out mine but made a nest in Bobbie and Kim’s. Here are some pictures that Bobbie took of the inside of her and Kim’s birdhouse.

  It’s sobering when you realize what the survival rate for birds in the wild is - what with the weather that they have to deal with and the carnivores that are out there like domestic cats, snakes, bluejays and hawks. It looks like in the April 19th picture there were 4 chicks but in the April 25th picture there were just 3. I’ll be surprised if 2 make it to adulthood.

  It’s a jungle out there.
